Our History…

The CEE

The CEE was founded in June 2000 in the library of Springfield Baptist Church in response to a series of articles in the Greenville News that revealed a huge gap in acheivement and discipline affecting minority students. A cross -section of retired teachers, clergy, Black Elected Officials, parents and comunity leaders joined hands to demonstrate that the acheivement gap could in fact be closed. With the goal of helping to level the learning field for struggling students and parents, the CEE operated an award winning SATURDAY SUCCESS SCHOOL with amazing success in raising academic acheivement among students from below basic to proficient and advanced.

More About the CEE

The CEE Saturday Succes School was held at the Phillis Wheatley Center 200-2001, and Greenville Technical College, 2001-2009 with students in grades 1-9. In addition to the academic gains, the CEE athletic program under Coach Shakir, in AAU Basketball, won state , regional and national awards, including 4th in the nation! CEE youth under Coach Shakir also won local, state and regional titles. The biggest title was 1st in the nation in NYFL Football. In order to provide training for more kids, the CEE athletic program shifted to USA Boxing to deal with the issues of frustration and anger that contributes to school suspensions. The CEE leased office space at the SMITH BUILDING, S. Pleasantburg Drive, 2001-2002. The County Recreation Commission granted the use of Woodfield Park in Bellemeade 2002-2004, and Happy Heart Parks 2005-2009 when the USA Boxing Program Began. The CEE is now located in its own building at 1191 Pendleton Street across from SHARE in the Westend. Many thanks to Senator Ralph Anderson for the grant that was used to purchase the building. Activities include a CEE SUCCESS After School, an annual CEE SUMMER SUCCESS CAMP, the CEE Greenville Boxing Club activities for students and parents; and special CEE advocacy workshops for parents. The CEE has touched the lives of hundreds of students since its inception. A non-profit organization focusing on Advocacy for students, Young Adults and Parents; Academics, Attitudes, Athletics for Discipline, The Arts and Personal Fitness. Boxing is great for building self discipline, anger management and for reducing bullying in our schools.
